Dr. Mary A. Flowers is a distinguished author and medical specialist renowned for her captivating children's literature and profound contributions to historical fiction. Her debut children's book, Max Goes To The Farm, enchanted young readers with its heartwarming tale of farmyard adventures.
She has since penned three more beloved children's stories: The Dog Who Wanted To Be A Hog, The School of Fish Who Went to School, and The Boy Who Loved Cats, each celebrated for their imaginative narratives and charming illustrations.
In addition to her work in children's literature, Dr. Flowers has made a significant impact in historical fiction with The Door of No Return, a poignant exploration of the slave house on Gorée Island in Senegal. This compelling novel provides a powerful lens into a dark chapter of history, shedding light on the human experiences of the transatlantic slave trade.
Dr. Flowers’ academic journey is as remarkable as her literary career. A valedictorian graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Montgomery, Alabama, she went on to excel at Tuskegee University, earning her degree Summa Cum Laude in 1972.
Her scholarly pursuits led her to Harvard, where she completed her graduate studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, followed by a medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1978.
Specializing in nephrology, Dr. Flowers has dedicated her medical career to the study and treatment of kidney disorders. She resides in Alabama, where she continues to contribute to both the medical field and the world of literature with her insightful storytelling and dedication to her patients.
